and before the Service on Sunday 17 December at 5.30 pm for a 6.30 pm start.
St Johns holds an annual Carol Service: “Carols by Candlelight” which this year is held on Sunday 17th December at 6.30 pm. The service is a mixture of traditional carols, a number of pieces prepared by the choir, readings and a short talk and attracts a good attendance from both the church and local communities.
At Christmas our choir numbers swell with members of the church congregation, the local community, friends and family.
We gather together for 4 rehearsals on Tuesday evenings at 7.30 pm; and then meet early for the Carol Service itself – for a quick warm up. Whilst we encourage our members to attend as many of the rehearsals as possible, we know that attendance every week is not always possible.
Rehearsals are fun affairs and don’t tend to last much more than an hour. We also issue CDs with the music for the choir pieces so that you can practice at will in your own time.
We tend to do a mix of traditional and more modern songs, as well as the traditional carols which form the backbone of the service.
Members of our Christmas choir range from pre-teenagers to those in their 80s. We have even had babies at our rehearsals. There is also a wide range of skill and ability – don’t be put off because you are shy, or under confident.
Our rehearsals are arranged by our music co-ordinator Ben Ling. You are warmly invited just to “turn up” and join in, but if you do have any queries you are welcome to contact Ben in advance on 07514 758223.
